rssWHAT’S NEW AT THE DAYTONA 500

NEW PAVEMENT: After a pot hole developed in turn 2 during the 2010 Daytona 500, track officials decided to move up their repaving plans and redo the entire track surface, apron, and pit area one year early. As of January 2011 the Daytona International Speedway has a brand new, 7 inch, high tech custom mixed asphalt surface. The project took five months to complete. The new track surface, which consists of 4 precisely engineered layers, is substantially smoother than the old surface. The improved track surface is the product of engineering, technology and materials which are far superior to that which existed in 1959 when the track was first constructed and 1978 when a new layer was added to the original surface.

BUDWEISER PARTY PORCH: Located along the Superstretch of the Daytona International Speedway, you will find the 20,000 square foot Budweiser Party Porch. This new attraction at the famed Daytona speedway has been in place since 2010 and is expected to be a popular destination for ticket holders at the 2011 Daytona 500. This new food, beverage and souvenir area is built atop a 46 foot elevated platform, which provides an amazing view of the track, especially down the Superstretch between turns 2 and 3. The porch, which is sponsored by Budweiser, is free to all ticket holders. There is also a new interactive game area located below the Budweiser Party Porch which provides a carnival like atmosphere.

DAYTONA 500 EXPERIENCE AND IMAX – CLOSED: In a cost cutting move said to be in response to a struggling economy, the Daytona International Speedway announced it will close the doors to this popular fan destination. This closure is expected to continue through the 2011 Daytona 500 race.
